In Jammu and Kashmir, two policemen were killed in the firing in the hospital premises

The firing incident took place on the premises of the Government Medical College Hospital in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, India. A member of the police force was killed. According to the police, one of the gunmen was also killed in the incident.

This incident happened on Tuesday evening. Sub-Inspector (SI) Deepak Sharma was seriously injured during the exchange of gunfire with the police on the medical college premises. He was shot in the head. Another policeman was injured.

After initial treatment in Kathua, Deepak was sent to Pathankot, Punjab, for advanced treatment. The concerned officials said that Deepak died there on Wednesday morning.

It is reported that the police chased the members of ‘Shuno Group’, known as a local criminal group. The leader of this group is named Vasudev. Later, they entered the medical college premises with a car. There, the police surrounded them. At that time, there was an exchange of fire between the two sides.

The identity of the gunman killed in the shootout has not been released.

Jammu-Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to the slain policeman, Deepak.

He said, ‘I respect Deepak Sharma’s valor and indomitable courage. His supreme sacrifice will remain in our hearts. My deepest condolences to the family of Shaheed Deepak Sharma.
