President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola declared that “we would never recognize” the outcome of the country’s approaching mid-March presidential election in light of the circumstances in Russia. On February 28, in Strasbourg, France, she was chatting with Zoriana Stepanenko, an RFE/RL correspondent. Metsola also made a statement regarding the imprisonment of journalists in Russia, using Alsu Kurmasheva of RFE/RL as an example, noting that “journalism is not a crime.”
