Sheikh Hasina responded to the US President’s letter

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has responded to the letter to US President Joe Biden. On Sunday (February 25), Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud handed over a copy of Sheikh Hasina’s letter to Eileen Laubacher, Special Assistant to Biden and Senior Director for South Asia at the US National Security Council.

It is known that Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Mohammad Imran will hand over the original copy of the letter to the White House.

Foreign Minister Dr. Eileen Laubacher led a US delegation to meet Hasan Mahmood at his ministry. Michael Schiffer, Assistant Administrator of USAID’s Bureau of Asian Affairs, Afrin Akhtar, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs of the US Department of State, and Helen Lafave, CDA of the US Embassy in Dhaka, attended the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Hasan Mahmud told reporters that the United States is a major development partner of ours. There were detailed discussions on how to deepen this relationship, starting a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries.

Talking about the discussion on the Rohingya issue in the meeting, the minister said that the United States has also considered Rohingya repatriation as the only solution. They also want the Rohingyas to return to their country with dignity. At the same time, the US representatives greatly appreciated the generosity shown by Bangladesh by giving them temporary shelter.

Hasan Mahmud said, I have highlighted the position of Bangladesh against any war and in favor of peace, including the implementation of ceasefire in Gaza, stopping the Russia-Ukraine war. The meeting also discussed the issue of bringing Rashed Chowdhury, the self-confessed killer of Bangabandhu, who is absconding to the United States, to the country. Their Justice Department is looking into it.
