Postgola Bridge Was Open

Postgola Bridge was opened. The important bridge was opened on Saturday (March 8) morning after 16 consecutive days of renovation work. The renovation work on this bridge, known as one of the gateways to the capital for the residents of the south-western part of the country, started on February 22. The Department of Roads and Public Ways (SOAZ) is working on renovating the bridge to increase its efficiency.

As a result, the vehicles using the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway move through the alternative bridge, i.e., Babu Bazar Bridge. The renovation work will continue until March 8. After that, the traffic through the bridge became normal on March 9.

Chowdhury Sajjad Arefin, Assistant Engineer of Keraniganj Road Circle of Roads and Public Ways Department, said that as part of the routine renovation of Postgola Bridge, the retrofitting and repair of two girders has started since February 22. This renovation work was completed yesterday, Friday.

Mohammad Sabuj Uddin Khan, Additional Chief Engineer of the Roads and Public Ways Department, told the media that two damaged girders of the Postgola Bridge have been repaired with micro-concrete. As a result, the bridge will not have to be repaired until the end of its lifespan.

Meanwhile, the bridge was opened at six o’clock in the morning on Saturday, but the work on the bridge was not completely completed. The bridge is still under maintenance. Due to the diversion in the middle of the bridge, there is a traffic jam on the exit line from Dhaka. However, there is no traffic jam in the entry line to Dhaka. Along the middle of the bridge, gravel is seen being deposited by trucks for casting work. The workers are taking them down the special stairs.

It is to be noted that on June 29, 2020, rescue ship Pratyaya came to rescue the launch of Morning Bird, which sank due to the Mayur-2 launch in the Sadarghat area of the Buriganga River. While crossing the Postgola bridge, the ship got stuck after hitting the bridge. It damaged the deck and beams below the bridge. After several stages of renovation, vehicles are being allowed to move on the bridge.
