“I repented and prepared for death,” said Faridul Islam, a youth of Lalmonirhat district

Faridul Islam, a youth of Lalmonirhat district, is a Master’s student of Tejgaon Government College. The eldest of four brothers and sisters. After the death of his father a few years ago, he started a new battle for life.

He used to deliver food on Pathao app to provide income with his studies and household responsibilities. He also had a master’s exam on the day of the fire at the Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road in the capital. That night he went to that building to take food delivery.

After entering Khana’j Daba restaurant, he heard a fire. Faridul could not even go down the stairs from the fourth floor of the building in a hurry. He alleged that the gate of the building was locked after the fire.

He wanted to go up the narrow stairs, but at that time he was engulfed in black smoke. The electricity also goes out. He saw that the entire building was on fire. At one point he went to the roof and took shelter.

He was rescued by fire service personnel after the fire was brought under control. Later he was admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
