Soldiers of BGB’s Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) raided the border areas of Kushtia and Meherpur in the last one year and three months and seized narcotics worth about Tk 23 crore.
On Wednesday (February 14) at the Martyr Colonel Shamsul Arefin Hall of BGB’s Kushtia headquarters in Mirpur, the seized drugs were officially destroyed at the training ground after a discussion meeting.
HQ Border Guard Bangladesh Additional Director General Brigadier General Md. Anwar Hossain (NDC, PSC, G+) inaugurated the program of destruction of seized drugs without owners as the chief guest.
Sector Commander and Deputy Director General of Kushtia Sector Headquarters Emarat Hossain (PBGM) said in his brief speech, “We have carried out this activity as part of the government’s zero tolerance policy against drugs.” This trend will continue. We are determined to keep the country drug free at any cost. He sought everyone’s cooperation in this regard.
Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) Captain (PSC Director) Lt. Col. Md. Ariful Haque spoke as a special guest on the occasion.
Among the drugs seized in Kushtia and Meherpur districts between November 1, 2022 and January 31, 2024 are Phencidyl- 9,442 bottles, Foreign Liquor- 8,793 bottles, Indian Gaza- 234,482 kg, Heroin- 27,594 kg, Yaba Tablets- 1 thousand 78 pieces, Viagra- 445 pieces, Sildenafil tablets- 2 lakh 84 thousand 361 pieces, Cow fattening tablets 11 thousand 138 pieces, Indian leaf beedi- 1 lakh 58 thousand 500 packets, Snake venom- 0.500 liters, Currant Mesh – 379 pcs.
At that time, Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) Quartermaster and Assistant Director Zakirul Islam, Kushtia Mirpur Upazila Executive Officer Zahurul Islam, Meherpur Gangni Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nadir Hossain Shamim, Kushtia Narcotics Control Directorate Deputy Director Parveen Akhter, Kushtia CPC-1 , RAB-12 Assistant Superintendent of Police Kishore Kumar, Kushtia Mirpur Police Circle Md Abdul Khalek, Meherpur Additional Superintendent of Police Kamrul Ahsan, Mirpur Thana Police Inspector (Investigation) Saiful Islam, Daulatpur Thana Police Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Islam, Meherpur Narcotics Control Directorate Inspector Abul Hashem , Kushtia Mirpur War House Inspector Fire Service Sabuj Hossain, invited officials of the administration, journalists of print and electronic media and various levels of BGB members were present.
