Closed Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower, one of the world’s top tourist attractions, was closed indefinitely on Monday due to a worker strike. Tower operator SETE said on its website that visits to the monument would be interrupted on Monday. They advised visitors to monitor the website or postpone the tour.

Authorities have asked e-ticket holders to check their e-mails for more information. Incidentally, the Eiffel Tower was closed twice in the last two months for the same reason. The Eiffel Tower is usually open 365 days a year. However, this time it was closed for the second time in just two months. Last December, the workers closed it after pressing for talks over the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Stephane Dew of the CGT union, which works on the rights of Eiffel Tower workers, said Monday’s strike was mainly to demand a pay rise. They claim that the salary of the workers has not increased compared to the amount of money earned by selling tickets. So the employees want to send a message to the authorities of this tower owned by Paris municipality.
