A case has been filed for cancellation of MP Khadijatul Anwar Soni’s position as Member of Parliament and re-election in Chittagong-2 (Fatikchari) Constituency on charges of concealment of bank loan information in the affidavit of the 12th Parliament Election. The rival candidate of the same seat and chairman of Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP) Syed Saifuddin Ahmed filed the case. A hearing in this regard is scheduled to take place on Sunday (February 18) in the concerned bench of the High Court.
Advocate Shahalam Abhi, the plaintiff’s lawyer, said that Khadijatul Anwar Soni was elected as a Member of Parliament by concealing the information of 8 bank loans including the court case related to defaulted loans in the election affidavit. The concerned bench of the High Court is scheduled to hear the matter on Sunday. Khadijatul Anwar Soni, the candidate of Boat, got 1 lakh 370 votes in the parliamentary elections held on January 7. His closest rival and independent candidate of watermelon symbol Hossain Md. Abu Taiyab got 36 thousand 587 votes.
Among others in the election, Supreme Party Chairman Saifuddin Ahmad Maizbhandari got 3 thousand 138 votes in the Ekta symbol, Mohammad Shahjahan, an independent candidate in the Eagle symbol, got 257 votes, Md. in the candle symbol. Hamidullah 1 thousand 525 votes, Mir Ferdous Alam 525 votes in chair symbol, Riaz Uddin Chowdhury 313 votes in cauliflower symbol and Jatiya Party Md. in plow symbol. Shafiul Azam got 255 votes. And the 14-party coalition leader and former member of parliament of this constituency Syed Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari, who withdrew from the election, got 213 votes.
There are 4 lakh 56 thousand 487 voters in total 142 polling stations in Fatikchari upazila with 18 unions and 2 municipalities. Among them, 2 lakh 39 thousand 902 male voters and 2 lakh 16 thousand 582 female voters.
