Maritime awareness seminars were held in Chittagong and Khulna on the occasion of Navy’s annual sea exercis

 

Maritime Domain Awareness-2023 seminar was held in Chittagong and Khulna naval areas as part of Bangladesh Navy’s annual sea exercise ‘Exercise Safe Guard-2023’. The seminar was held at the Banauja Isa Khan School of Maritime Warfare and Tactics (SMWT) in Chittagong and the Fairway Multipurpose Hall of Banauja Titumi Naval Base in Khulna. Rear Admiral Khondkar Misbah ul Azim, Regional Commander of Chittagong Naval Region and Commodore Jahangir Adil Samdani, Regional Commander of Khulna Naval Region were present as the chief guests in the seminars held with the aim of increasing mutual cooperation between the organizations using sea resources.

In the seminar held in Chittagong, discussions were held on various issues related to maritime commercial expansion, use of marine mineral resources for energy security, sound management of fisheries resources, protection of environment and biodiversity, and challenges of marine resource security. Bangladesh Army and Air Force, Bangladesh Coast Guard, Chittagong Port Authority, Payra Port Authority, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Bangladesh University of Technology, Chittagong University, Marine Fisheries Academy, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, BIWTA,

ChittagongRepresentatives of Custom’s House, BNCC, Bangladesh Oceanography Research Institute (BORI), Department of Environment, Chittagong Dry Dock Limited and other maritime organizations were present.

Besides, in the seminar held in Khulna, ‘Bangladesh Navy’s contribution to conservation and sustainable use of resources in the Bay of Bengal to ensure the sustainable development of Bangladesh’, ‘Development of sustainable dredging strategy plan for ship access to Mongla port’, ‘Development of integrated plan for establishment of sea navigation and communication’, ‘Forest

conservation and IllegalDiscussions were held on ‘Protecting forest resources from poaching’, ‘Challenges of inland waterways and ways to overcome them’ and ‘Regional cooperation and infrastructure development to strengthen maritime trade’. A significant number of discussants including

representatives of Bangladesh Coast Guard West Zone, Mongla Port Authority, Commander Flotilla West, Architectural Discipline of Khulna University, BIWTA and Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department Khulna participated in the seminar
