Children are dying of starvation in northern Gaza, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said. They witnessed the terrible picture of children dying of starvation in two hospitals there.
The World Health Organization said this on Monday.
Agency head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the agency visited Al Awda and Kamal Adwan hospitals for the first time over the weekend.
However, regular attempts to enter northern Gaza have continued since early last October.
He said on X (former Twitter) that the picture of Al Awda Hospital is terrible. One of its buildings was destroyed. On the other hand, Kamal Advan Hospital is the only children’s hospital there.
It is also full of patients. Tedros also said that 10 children died in the food crisis.
He said, due to a lack of electricity, there is a serious disruption in the service in these two hospitals. Critical units such as intensive care and neonatal units are in dire straits.
Tedros reiterated calls for Israel to ensure safe and regular humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Ministry of Health said that at least 16 children have died of malnutrition in aid-deprived northern Gaza. Last week, the United Nations warned that famine in the Gaza Strip was imminent due to the Israel-Hamas war.
Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 last year. Israel continued its offensive in the Gaza Strip in retaliation.
“Children are starving to death due to malnutrition in northern Gaza, and there are severe shortages of fuel, food, and medical supplies,” a doctor said. The hospital’s building was destroyed.
Where there is very little food or clean water left for an estimated three lakh people.
