2 were killed by the engine of Mithali Express

In Nilphamari, two people died after the engine of the Mithali Express, an inter-country train, The incident took place on Sunday (March 3) around 11:30 a.m. in Sadar Upazila’s Dakshin Chawra (Gathangtari) and Surbankhuli areas of Sangalshi Union.

The deceased are Anisha Begum (55), wife of deceased Tashir Uddin of Dakshin Chowra (Gathangtari) area of Chowra Baragacha Union of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila, and Sourav Islam (20), son of Manik Mia of Suvarnakhuli area of the same upazila.

The police and locals said that the engine of the inter-country Mithali Express train from Parvatipur was going to Chilahati at around 11:30 a.m. At that time, Anisha Begum was going to fetch wood next to the railway line. He was knocked down by the engine and died on the spot, as he was unable to see or hear. On the other hand, hearing-impaired Saurabh Islam died in the Suvarnakhuli area after being hit by the engine of the same train. He was reportedly suffering from mental problems.

Syedpur Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sakyul Azam told the media that the bodies were handed over after the legal process as there were no complaints from the two families.
