The King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, will be inaugurated in 2030. After its inauguration, it will be recognized as the world’s largest airport. Spread across 57 square kilometers, the new airport will have six runways. The airport will cover 12 square kilometers with entertainment facilities and various product shops.
The new airport will become an aerotropolis focused on seamless travel, world-class efficient operations and innovation. The airport is expected to be able to serve 12 crore passengers once operational. By the year 2050, this number will stand at 18.5 crore, the authorities said.
The new airport will incorporate the terminals of King Khalid International Airport, which was opened in 1983.
The airport was designed by British architecture firm Foster Plus Partners. The delivery partner for this ambitious airport will be UK construction company Mace.
The airport project is part of Saudi Arabia’s long-term goals. This will help Riyadh become one of the world’s top 10 economic cities by 2030 and increase Riyadh’s population from one and a half to two million. On the other hand, around 150,000 jobs are expected to be created in the King Salman International Airport area.
British Airways will launch direct flights from the UK to Riyadh (King Khalid International Airport) after the launch. The return ticket price for this flight will start from around 700 Euros
