Instead of sending a space station into space, China has created a space environment on Earth. The world’s largest space environment simulation has been built in Harbin Science and Technology Innovation Park in the northeastern part of the country.
The space station is named the ‘Space Environment Simulation and Research Infrastructure’ or SESRI.
The ground-space station has four laboratories.
The entire structure is the size of 50 football fields.
The space station is built exactly like the space environment.
China has already started its operation after conducting experiments. SESRI is jointly developed by the Harbin Institute of Technology and the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
The laboratories will conduct research on the space environment, plasma science, magnetic environment, crop production, and animal husbandry.
Environmental factors include space dust, solar radiation, extremely cold weather, and microgravity. This establishment has created a stir globally.
So far, 110 universities and institutes from 30 countries around the world have contracted to use the ground space station.
