The viewers were expressing their dissatisfaction with BPL in various ways. But this time it came from someone who is in charge of the national team.
According to Bangladesh team head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, the country’s top franchise-based league is ‘like a circus’. He often turns off the TV while watching.
Hathurusinghe was on vacation during the BPL league season. Naturally, he had to be seen on the television screen. This Lankan coach recently came to Bangladesh and gave an interview to ESPN Cricinfo. He said that he had to turn off the TV while watching BPL.
Hathuru said, ‘We don’t have a proper T20 tournament. It may sound bad but I watched the game on TV; Sometimes the TV had to be turned off. Some players have no value at all. I also have a big problem with the current system. ‘
Hathuru also clarified his frustration with BPL. At the same time, there is a shortage of foreign players in some franchise tournaments. In between they are in procession. Many are coming for one or two matches. Hathuru thinks that ICC and BCB should come forward with these.
He said, “ICC must come forward. Our board needs to do something. There needs to be a rule. A cricketer plays one tournament, then another. Much like a circus. Players may talk about opportunities but this is not true. People will lose interest. I lost my interest. ‘
Apart from BPL, there is no T20 tournament in Bangladesh. Regrets are often heard about this. Hathuru wanted a T20 tournament to test Bangladeshi cricketers.
He said, ‘There should be a tournament where our boys will have something to do – like they are batting in the top three, Bangladesh bowlers are bowling in the death. If not, where do we learn these things? We only have one tournament. ‘
“My suggestion is to do another tournament before the BPL. Franchisees do what they want. Some of my best players are getting opportunities in BPL. So how do you expect Bangladesh to get ahead of others? I am fighting a hard fight
