Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Tajul Islam said, a corrupt person cannot be happy. It is necessary to take steps to reduce the level of corruption that is currently taking place. Everyone should take an oath to prevent corruption.
Ek Chhaya said these things in the parliament titled ‘Smart Bangladesh is possible only through strengthening the local government’ at FDC in the capital on Friday.
Tajul Islam said, the kind of corruption that occurs at the macro level is very bad. I myself cannot do much about corruption. However, the allegations of irregularities against the local government representatives in the selection of the beneficiaries of the social security sector, including old age allowance, widow allowance, have now reduced a lot.
Regarding the upazila elections, the minister said, I will not nominate anyone openly or secretly in this year’s upazila elections. Local government representatives have an image crisis. If local government posts can be made dignified then good people will participate in these elections. There is no conflict between MPs and local government representatives. MPs work for the overall development of the area with the upazila chairman and other public representatives. In order to build a smart Bangladesh, the local government and the central government have to work through coordination.

Bangladesh University of Business and Technology debaters defeated East West University debaters in the shadow parliament. The judges in the competition were writer-researcher Zahid Rahman, journalist Soma Islam, journalist Sajeda Kalam Sweety, journalist Animesh Kar and journalist Atika Rahman. At the end of the competition, the winning teams are awarded with crests, trophies and certificates
