Housing and Public Works Minister Ram Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury said that there are 6 thousand 372 abandoned houses in the capital Dhaka. He also said that the preserved abandoned houses are being used for the construction of residential flats for officials and employees.
The Minister of Housing and Public Works gave this information in response to the question of Independent Member of Parliament Muhammad Saiful Islam in the National Parliament on Wednesday (February 14). Speaker Shireen Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the question and answer table at the beginning of the meeting.
According to the information given by the Minister of Works, the most abandoned houses in the capital are in Mirpur area. There are 3 thousand 582 abandoned houses in Mirpur. There are 1 thousand 542 abandoned houses in Mohammpur area. Apart from this, 320 in Sutrapur, 128 in Gulshan, 9 in Banani, 62 in Moghbazar, 36 in Tejgaon, 19 in Nakhalpara, 26 in Cantonment, 38 in Basabo, 10 in Shahjahanpur, 12 in Khilgaon, 2 in Jurain, 72 in Motijheel, 158 in Ramna, 174 in Lalbagh, 46 in Kotwali, Dhan. 88 in Mandi, There are 25 abandoned houses in Lalmatia, 4 in Jatrabari and 1 in Maniknagar. Among the abandoned houses, 4 are being used as construction companies and 20 are being used as educational institutions, the minister said.
Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury said that the preserved abandoned houses are being used for the construction of residential flats for officials/employees and are being allotted on rent basis to the officials/employees. The saleable abandoned houses are being sold to various individuals, institutions, martyr families, war wounded freedom fighters and allottees with the approval of the Prime Minister. In the last three financial years, rent of 12 crore 68 lakh 16 thousand 429 taka has been collected from abandoned houses in Dhaka city. At this time, 2 crore 31 lakh 2 thousand 737 taka was collected from the sale.
