Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi has become the top all-rounder in the ICC ODI player rankings, overtaking Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan.
Nabi’s brilliant 136 in the first ODI against Sri Lanka took him to the top of the leaderboard. He achieved this status as the oldest (39 years and one month) player.
Shakib’s reign as an ODI all-rounder was magnificent. He has been holding this seat continuously since May 7, 2019. This is the record for the longest consecutive stay at the top of the ODI rankings by a player.
Nabi’s rise highlights Afghanistan’s growing prominence in world cricket. Earlier, Rashid Khan (ODI/T20 bowling) and Mujeeb ur Rahman (T20 bowling) topped the ICC rankings.
Both the teams have shown remarkable performances in the first two ODIs against Sri Lanka.
Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai climbed 19 places to 57th with an unbeaten 149 while Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka (97), Pathum Nisanka and Sadira Samarawickrama moved up the batting rankings. Wanindu Hasaranga and Dilshan Madhushanka have advanced in the bowling rankings.
