Finally, the long-standing demand of the residents of Lalmonirhat is going to be fulfilled. The country’s first ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University’ is located in the abandoned World War II airport at Lalmonirhat.
At the same time, an aircraft repair and maintenance factory will be established here, and even an aircraft manufacturing factory may be established here in the future, said Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed.
The traders of Lalmonirhat said, this is their demand for a long time. Reusing the abandoned Lalmonirhat airport will contribute to the economic development of the district. Now they want quick implementation of the steps taken by the government.
Lalmonirhat-II Constituency MP and Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed came to Lalmonirhat on Thursday afternoon to determine the location of the proposed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University. He was accompanied by Lalmonirhat-3 Constituency MP and Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader, Air Force Chief Masihuzzaman Serniabat, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University Vice-Chancellor Air Vice Marshal Fazlul Haque, university consultant Salman David and Air Force personnelSenior officers.Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed told reporters, “The main campus of the proposed university will be at Lalmonirhat, but one of its branches will be set up at Ashkona in the capital Dhaka.
