Director General (DG) of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, AHM Safikuzzaman, said that the government is working earnestly to prevent the increase in commodity prices.
He said, considering the demand for the month of Ramadan, the import duty on some products has already been reduced. But it will take some time to reap the benefits at the consumer level.
The director general of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate said these things in a shadow parliament titled ‘Commodity price control is the main challenge of the current government’ at the FDC in Dhaka on Friday. The competition is organized by Debate for Democracy. Chairman of the Debate for Democracy, Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran, presided over the event.
AHM Sofikuzzaman said that necessary operations are being conducted to control the price of goods. There is no dominant pressure against market monitoring.
Pointing out that the relevant ministries and organizations are working in coordination to control the prices of products, he said that the government is giving priority to trade diplomacy. Bangladesh will never be Sri Lanka or Venezuela. Currently, Bangladesh is the 38th largest semi-politicized country in the world. The government is emphasizing the use of digital technology to ensure good governance in market management and ease people’s suffering. A supply chain management system has already been introduced, which will monitor the production and delivery of products. No one is stronger than the state. Our fight against unscrupulous traders will continue.
