European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
In a congratulatory message sent to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the President of the European Commission wished Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina all the success and said that he is looking forward to continue working with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in order to strengthen the relationship between the European Union and Bangladesh in the coming years. The European Union is committed to cooperation with Bangladesh on sustainable development, climate change, migration and other interests, he noted.
In the letter, President Ursula von der Leyen fondly recalled her meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Global Gateway Forum in Brussels in 2023, saying, ‘It also marked the formal start of negotiations for a new Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, aimed at further broadening and modernizing our partnership framework.
The President of the European Commission said that the European Union will work with Bangladesh to uphold and advance democracy, human rights and the rule of law within the framework of a long-term partnership. The letter was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 19 from the European Union Delegation office in Dhaka.
