World Bank Managing Director Anna Buzzard arrived in Bangladesh yesterday. This is his first official visit. During the visit, he will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Finance Minister, and other government officials. Apart from this, there is a meeting with civil society and private sector leaders, according to related sources.
According to the source, the MD of the World Bank will be accompanied by the Vice President of the World Bank for South Asia, Martin Riser. During the visit, he will talk about the World Bank’s support for various sectors.
The World Bank was one of the first development partners to assist Bangladesh after independence. According to the latest information, the World Bank has pledged $41 billion in assistance to Bangladesh. Most of these loans are grants or subsidized loans. Major projects supported by the World Bank Group International Development (IDA) are ongoing in Bangladesh.
