EU Ambassador meeting with Minister of State for Hills

 

Charles Whiteley, Ambassador of the European Embassy in Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Kujendra Lal Tripura.

Representatives including Whiteley met at the State Minister’s office on Sunday.

In the meeting, the EU ambassador said that the European Union, Foundation for Humanity and UNDP combined with the development supporter, three upazilas of Rangamati in Chittagong Hill Tracts, three upazilas of Bandarban and two upazilas of Khagrachari in a total of 26 unions for poverty alleviation of 20,000 very poor families in 98,000It has undertaken projects aimed at helping people.The delegation assured the state minister that they will take effective steps to alleviate the poverty of these poor people including increasing the areas of cooperation.

The main objective of the project is to reduce the poverty of the very poor families in the three hill districts and provide support in climate resilient livelihoods.

Project includes- Community managed market collection points. These include- conducting satellite clinics/health camps in remote areas, family visits to monitor children’s growth, food packages for moderately and severely malnourished children.

The state minister welcomed their initiative and said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is giving more importance to climate control and poverty alleviation in building a smart Bangladesh.

He said that the government applauds such welfare initiatives of local and foreign aid agencies. He urged everyone to work with sincerity.
