British Government interested in medical aid: Health Minister

Health Minister Dr. Samant Lal Sen said that the British government has shown interest in helping the medical field of Bangladesh.

British High Commissioner (Acting) Matt Cannell expressed this interest in a courtesy meeting with the Health Minister on Sunday.

At this time, the British High Commissioner praised the various developmental activities of the health sector of Bangladesh. Besides, he said that Bangladesh has done better than many countries in the world in the corona epidemic.

Matt Cannell said there are currently 7 million Bangladeshis in the UK. Meanwhile, many students are also going to study medicine in the UK.

The health minister said that Bangladesh’s relationship with the UK is very deep. Bangladesh is currently moving forward in the progress of development. The health sector of Bangladesh has also started to improve greatly.

He said that thousands of doctors and nurses have been appointed in Bangladesh even during the Corona period. Bangladesh has become the fifth place in the world and the champion in South Asia in fighting Corona. Bangladesh now needs proper training for doctors and nurses.

At that time, the Health Minister requested the British High Commissioner to establish a special training institute in Bangladesh for higher training of doctors and nurses.

The British High Commissioner assured that his government will consider it seriously. He emphasized on the exchange of experience between doctors and nurses of both countries. At the same time, he also informed about sending experienced doctors and nurses from UK to Bangladesh.

They also discussed increasing technical assistance and technical training in Bangladesh and UK.

The British High Commissioner said that more work needs to be done to reduce the use of antibiotics in Bangladesh.

At this time, the Health Minister assured the British High Commissioner that Bangladesh has taken multi-dimensional initiatives to reduce the use of antibiotics.

In the next 10 years, there may be an epidemic like Covid again in the world, British High Commissioner Matt Cannell suggested to think about whether Bangladesh’s research in the field of medicine can be increased or not.

They also talked about vaccine facilities, health care enhancement, exchange of training of doctors and health workers in both countries.
