General of Police, Bangladesh Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun BPM (Bar), PPM has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of life in a massive fire in a multi-storied building at Baili Road in the capital on Thursday night.
Immediately after the fire incident, the IGP rushed to the spot along with senior officials to summarize the ongoing Police Week 2024 program at Rajarbagh Police Lines. He inspected the site and supervised rescue operations. The police chief visited Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Central Police Hospital late at night to see the injured.
In view of this tragic fire incident, the discussion meeting on law and order and crime control held on Friday of Police Week 2024 has been cancelled. Usually there is a get together of police officers and their family members along with this exchange meeting.
It is to be noted that the daughter of an additional DIG of Bangladesh Police, who was studying in the BUET, also lost her life due to fire.
The IGP prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. He wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and those under treatment
