Tamim Iqbal had to listen to questions about international cricket at the press conference after winning the BPL title for Fortune Barisal. Will he return? Tamim said that many things have to be right for him to return to international cricket.
Tamim retired from international cricket during the series against Afghanistan before the last World Cup. Then decided to return again. Tamim gave up the captaincy and played one match against New Zealand.
But his place was not in the World Cup squad until the end. After the World Cup, he did not play any match for the national team.
His final decision was supposed to be announced within the BPL itself. But Tamim has not told that yet. After making Fortune Barisal the BPL champion, the opener said that many things have to be fixed to return to international cricket.
He said, ‘No, he did not have any conversation with me (with the new chief selector). Jalal Bhai has spoken with me. I was available to talk but unfortunately maybe…I was supposed to sit with you. But we have contact. I’m leaving the country again tomorrow morning. I hope we will sit again after coming.
Tamim added, ‘I want to tell you one thing clearly – a lot of things have to be right for me to come back. Or just come and play there is no point. Because I am at such a stage in my career – maybe two years. Those words should be said with them. As they have not had final talks yet. It is not appropriate to come to this press conference and say anything. It should not be said.
Then again in this context, Tamim said, ‘Physically I was better at that time (during the World Cup). Now you see that a little belly has come out. Physically I was in better shape then. It would be very unfair to comment on what I said. As long as I don’t talk to them. I told you one thing that I have to fix a lot of things for my return
