Detective Kat Donovan’s world falls apart when she finds her estranged fiancé on a dating app, prompting her to reopen her father’s unsolved murder. This will be the fourth adaptation of the Harlan Coben novel starring Richard Armitage. Here’s a revised and improved version of your update: I binge-watched all five episodes. I didn’t really get it until the second episode, but I decided to watch it. Cohen’s adaptations seem to follow a pattern of mostly unrelated or overly complicated plot lines that come together seamlessly in the final episode. While the previous ones were pretty good, this one felt very weak in comparison. There wasn’t much of a story to it, and it was all “aha” moments; the moments were crammed into the final episode, typical of Cohen from what I’ve seen. The acting was okay, and the characters weren’t terrible, but the story just wasn’t engaging or compelling. It seemed more about getting to the end. I wouldn’t say don’t watch it, but if you have other options lined up, I’d definitely put it before this one. Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see improved! “A Separation” Season 2 is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our January calendar for more!
